Great Gifts for your Dog

So Many Things to Choose From!

The holidays are a great excuse to buy something for your dog that will be fun for it and also beneficial to you. There are several toys that will not only last longer than the average, but will also occupy Fido and give you some extra energy draining during the hectic times.

Kong ToyKONG: Go with a classic. The original and extreme KONGs have been around for years and are a great toy for any dog. Skip all the extra treats and sprays. Just add peanut butter or plain yogurt and freeze to serve up a great mental workout for your dog. This is an especially good toy to use when you are very busy, or when you leave them home alone. Used exclusively when you cannot be attentive; these toys will help your dog cope, and actually look forward to its KONG when you are away.

Kibble NibbleKIBBLE NIBBLE: You are always going to feed your dog. Why not make it a game? This toy will help your dog release some extra physical and mental energy while working for its food in a fun and creative way! We highly recommend this toy to be used daily as extra way to drain energy not only during the holidays, but every day of the year.

NylaboneNYLABONE: While rawhide toys are traditional canine gifts, Nylabones offer a great alternative. These toys come in a wide varieties of tastes and textures. Both edible and non-edible varieties make it possible to satisfy both gentle and high intensity chewers. These products can even help keep your dogs clean! This way you get fun, exercise, and dental health all from the same purchase!

Utilizing the place command during the holidays

Dog Enjoying His Place

The holidays are a wonderful time to gather with family and friends and catch up. Your dog can be a great addition to these gatherings, if you take the time to brush up on your "place" command. This command is great way to include your dog during holiday dinner, tree trimming, and while opening gifts without having them assist you in the process directly! In the event that you have not practiced "place" with your dog in a while, remember the following:

1. Leashes are required for enforcement when a dog is rusty. Be fair to Fido. Use the tools you need to help him remember.
2. Never use the command "stay" during place. Stay is a statue. Place is more playful. Don't confuse the dog by crossing the two ideas.
3. Make sure to bring the dog back if it gets up before it gets released. Don't cheat or he will too.
4. Make it fun! Praise your dog often and maybe even bring it a special toy or treat while it is there.
5. When your dog is released, ignore it for awhile so it sees the place is where the praise happens.

You will enjoy your time together more, as long as you practice beforehand so that everyone remembers what to do. Your family and friends will thank you. Your dog will thank you.
